The General Motors Lordstown assembly and stamping complex in Ohio is switching to LED in GM’s largest lighting conversion in North America. The Lordstown plant is where the Chevrolet Cruze is built. The project, which will involve replacing an existing high-bay lighting system in the stamping plant, is expected to save $800,000. LED lighting is expected to reduce energy consumption by 84% and CO2 by 8500 t. GM is working towards reducing energy intensity in its facilities 20% by 2020. Lordstown Complex Manufacturing Engineering Director Steve Rhoades said in regards to the project, “With 6 million square feet of buildings and lighting, there is a tremendous opportunity to become the benchmark in green energy solutions.”
